If your kids are anything like mine they’ll be running around barefoot, in shorts and a t-shirt and begging for an ice cold smoothie, even in the middle of winter!!
So I put down by hot water bottle, wrap my dressing gown around me a little tighter and scuffle my slippered feet over to the kitchen as requested :P
Smoothies are a great first step to getting your kids involved in the kitchen. They love adding in all the different fruit and veg, scooping and spooning the little extra ingredients in, pouring in the liquid and getting to blend it all up!
When it comes to making a well balanced smoothie, I like to make sure there are both fruit and veg, a source of good fats and a bit of a rainbow effect so you know they're getting a wide range of vitamins and minerals.
Here’s a little mum-hack for you; cut up all those half eaten apples, pears, bananas, mandarins etc that your kids just love to leave on their plate/in their lunchbox/just laying around, and pop them into a container in the freezer to add to their smoothies! Saves on waste and also on buying extra frozen fruit just for smoothies!
I also do this with any spare avocados, cut them in half, remove the pip, scoop out of the skin and pop them in the freezer too!
If you have the time, free-flow freezing the fruit by laying it on a Silicone Mat lined baking tray before adding it to an air-tight container, will ensure they don’t all stick together so they are easier to grab and chuck into smoothies.

- 1 Small Frozen Banana
- 1/2 Frozen Avocado
- 1/2 Cup Organic Frozen Mixed Berries
- 1/2 Packet ofFrozen Dragonfruit
- 200ml Coconut Water
- 200mlHomegrown Immunity Juice

TRASH TO TREASURE SMOOTHIE
Ingredients
- 1 Large Frozen Banana
- 1 Cup Frozen Fruit Scraps
- 1/2 Large Orange or 1 Whole (peeled) mandarin
- 1/2 Cup Frozen or Fresh Spinach
- 400ml Coconut Water
- 1 Tbsp Chia Seeds
- 1 Tbsp Nutra Organics Collagen (Lemon Lime works well in this recipe)
- *optional 1 TbspNorish Smoothie Booster orMatakana Supershake
Method
Add all ingredients into a blender and blend well.

- 1 Tbsp Nut Butter (we use almond but any will work)
- 2 TbspNutra Organics Choc Whiz
